When I tackle the design of an addition to an existing home I use my extensive construction knowledge from decades of doing renovations and framing houses to understand the structural requirements to not only design something that is beautiful and blends into the existing home but is also cost-effective and doesn't cause the engineer to make that funny face when they look at the plans.
